And at the beginning, I was very keen on the idea of having a useful excuse to spend hours plugged on Internet. Later on, I’ve realized that we had certain assignments to do, which corresponds with the Workbook’s Unit.

Because I’m too perfectionist when it is about writing something down, I never finished on time these assignments. So, I was forced to continue it later at home.
And it was somehow difficult to me to remember about my blog when I was online.
Maybe I associate too quickly Internet, blogs and stuff to pure entertainment, and I took this blogging process like a labor, like a work. (( Wow! I’m combining two units in one post! o.O” )).

Since I don’t associate blogging with pleasure, I would like to answer why…
As it seems, most posts we’re supposed to write on were about ‘strict’ subjects. At least, we we’re supposed to talk about a limited subject, commenting about this or that. I don’t know how to express it, but I always had the feeling that we’re forced to do something.

And as a lazy student that I am (( it’s awkward to admit it, but I guess I wasn’t a good example of hard work in this process… )), I never tried to explore these assignments. And somehow, in my head, I kept telling me that one day, I’ll put my a** on this chair, and finish all the posts, publish all that I had to publish. However, I guess this day never really came. And I’m waiting for it!

On the other hand, I can’t say I wasn’t totally indifferent about what was going on. It is quite interesting connecting people all over the world, share your experiences and point of views on the web, and expanding our network. You know Bee, it’s awesome: every day that I see you sited in front the computer, in the computer room, blogging, chatting, working, I realize that you’re never be alone!

Your network allows me to say it! When I did a google with your name, you can’t imagine how surprised I was!

And I would like to continue this blogging process, look out for new contacts, meet new cultures, and learn about everything. It is such a shame that Internet web isn’t used like it should be. I mean that, finally, Humanity came to a extraordinaire source of knowledge and cultures, and most people can’t even take a profit on it. Most people enjoy the ‘easy’ of all this, and don’t really care; they just blog and navigate from websites to another, and it is so mean less.

So, to conclude (( which I’m not really sure I can; I can’t say for right if this “evaluation” regarded this year process )), I would like to say that the only error of the blogging process was the obligation of doing it.
Still, I would like to thank you teacher, this blogging process (( and flickr! )) made a quite change on my point of view.

In order to justifies why I don’t post so often, it’s fault of my perfectionist side: as it comes to express myself, I need to use exactly the words I want, I need to be able to formulate right sentences. I guess I’m just frustrated because sometimes I don’t feel a hundred percent sure of what I’m writing (( and speaking! )). It’s awkward to say this too, but … for fear I can’t express myself I finish not trying at all.

“ Mais bon! “

I guess this is it!
Hope ‘ye’ liked it
(( for the few that read it till the bottom… ~.~ ))
Loads of kisses!

Getting my things ready ...

viagem pra guaruu
Originally uploaded by Lhu.

This photograph represents a little bit my real needs for a trip.

I mean I couldn't survive without any of these objects!

* My bag: I simply don't live without it, especially on my holydays. How could I hang all over the city, with everything I need, if it wasn't with it?

* My little teddy bear: Actually, it isn't a bear it is a lion... It was a gift from my boyfriend, for our 2 months together! Since I couldn't see him during TWO WEEKS, I had to bring it! It is written "Je t'aime" on the little heart in its neck...

* Les liaisons dangereuses, Chaderlos Laclos: It is a book, about French libertinage, and I had to read it during these holydays. 470 pages, all written in letters, aren't the easiest things to read! Fortunately, it is a captivate thriller, and I'm still reading it... It was the minimum baggage to transport, since I had HOMEWORK, wasn't it?

* My CD's and my discman: Well, how could YOU travel without a little music? Inside my case, you'll find all kind of music: Popular Music from Brazil, Funk (( the real one, from United States, not these obscene lyrics from Rio de Janeiro )), Brit Pop, 70es Rock'n'Roll, Samba, etc. And my discman, actually it is my friend's, but I don't think he remember it!

* My keys: Yes, they're important!! It makes me open my front door! And my boyfriend's! And my school closet... But this is not so important during my holydays... My keys are essential and very useful! How would I open my door at 5 am, after a party?? Since my holydays night weren't specially spend at home, I guess my keys aren't a good thing to forgot, aren’t they?

* My batteries recharging: It recharged my batteries! Batteries of my cam, of my discman... During a travel, it was quite useful!

* My pillow: You can see it on the corner... My pillow is filled with smells and plants like: eucalypt, chamomile, etc. I can't spend too much time without it, since I have sinusitis and stuff... I'm crazy about it, even if my mother wanted me to let it home so I won't get it dirty.

* My scissors: I was about to forget about them! (( they're on my book )). Every one knows how extravagant I am because I always have a pair of scissors with me! I really don't know why, but it could be always useful, don't you think?

After all, this is a description about the essential objects during my holydays.

I'm not including cell phone, wallet, money, etc, because it is kind of obvious these things.

I'm showing the objects that identify me; at least, they did during these vacations!

Hope you'd like it!

Kisses

Lhu*

ps, this photo is uploaded on my flickr to, like an every day scene!

×ReBeLs×

Hello!
We're studying a new unit called 'Rebels'.
I'm supposed to post what I think about rebels, how to define them, or an act of rebellion. Well, this is it.

I have many ideas and stories to post about this subject; you'll be surprised.

For example, I'm against a system, this posting sytem. Instead of defining what a rebel is, where they could be, etc, I will not post during this Unit.

I'm here fighting for a cause: as I see, and I'm not the only one to think like this, blogs aren't the best way to approve and practice English.
Without drafts, errors, without a piece of paper in front of us with all our mistaken sentences, with our first thoughts, how are we supposed to learn?

I hope I'm not pushing this too far, and I hope on not being seen like just another insolent student who doesn't want to work hard.

I'm here to break away from a system that I don't agree with.
Unfortunately, I'm forced to follow it. Accidentally, while a little girl was opening her window, he crushed and fell on the cold and deadly snow. Fortunately, a cow passed by and pooped on him. Thanks to her, he survived! After a while, a cat passed by, saved the bird from the poop, and ate him.

This popular story has the moral that I was thinking:

Those who poop on you do not necessarily want to harm you while those who dig you out of it do not necessarily want to save you.

So, we always need to watch out: is my friend really nice to me? Just because he helped me once, is it enough to trust him? Just because he saved me, or gave me a hand on this test, is he a hero?!
Is he someone we need to look up to? Someone with principals? Values? Determination? Is he a remarkable person?

I agree in part with Amanda, because anyone should be able to be a hero.
But never forgetting that 'giving a hand for those who need it' isn't all to be heroic.
Maybe who need it, didn't called you.
Maybe your help, wasn't with the best intentions.

What could really make all of us heroes?!
Our utopist altruist sense of humanity?

Maybe this is a question meant to be left without a answer...

Kisses!

°º°º°º Our Visit to the Pinacoteca º°º°º°

henry mooore pinacoteca
Originally uploaded by Lhu.

On May 20th, Friday, our class 1ère L / ES visited the Pinacoteca of São Paulo. If you're interested to learn more about this Museum, click here!

We had one hour and twenty minutes to see the exposition. We lunched before entering the Pinacoteca, and it was quite pleasant; there were a lovely park and square near it.

When we entered, we had to let our bags at the reception. A neo-hippy guide (I don't remember her name) led us during the visit. I think that the time that we had to know the workmanships of Henry Moore was very short. Works of art have to be appreciated, each one has its own time. The guide told us quite interesting information about Moore's work and life.

For example, we saw fascinating sculptures with elms, and the Second World War brought this up. If it weren't her, we would be a little lost to understand Henry Moore's meaning with his art.

I absolutely believe that our little 'research' about Moore before going to the Pinacoteca was very important, even essential. Before visiting an exposition, we have to know something about the artist!

Anyway...

On the end of our 'tour', we watched a short 'movie' (if we can say it was a movie, it was more like a documentary...) which Moore explained everything: how he started sculpting, why he started, when he started, why he prefers sculptures on the outside, the meaning in each little artistic work he made... If it wasn't my terrible need to sleep, the fact that we were in a dark and cold little room, and that it was quite conveniant to have some sleep, I have to say that I enjoyed a lot being able to understand what crossed Moore's mind when he sculpted.

In general, I would say that art IS my cup of tea (( haha! typical vocabulary learnt on 4eme! )) and Moore is certainly the greatest sculptor of our century!! (( I mean, last century... ))

Kisses and good-bye!!!

See you later

O0º° 27th Bienal São Paulo 2oo6 °º0O

lisette
Originally uploaded by Lhu.

From: http://bienalsaopaulo.globo.com/27/27curadora.asp

"

Conheça a nova curadora

***

Yes, I know it is in Portuguese, and I'm supposed to write in English...
But I couldn't found an article about it transliterated...
This article is about the new curator of the 27th Bienal of São Paulo.

I guess Lisette Lagnado is a hero for me, not just because she's my mother, but because I know all her path to be where she is right now.
Her hero qualities are:

* DETERMINATION>> She had this fixed intention and resolution since the day she was selected to be, perhaps, the new curator of the Bienal. She had a little more than thirty days to create a project to be accepted by a judging panel. She has a firmness of purpose.

* LOYALTY>>She hadn't "sold her soul to the Devil" to come this far. I mean she kept values and principals and didn't corrupt her career to self profit.

*DEDICATION>>Since 1981, she is in the "Art business". Her devotion and dedication is remarkable and unique. In my opinion, independently that I'm her daughter, there couldn't be a more devoted curator.

I won't talk more about her, it could be too pretentious since she's my mother...

Today, 1st of June, two weeks had passed since Lisette was selected.
I guess I choose her to be part of my heroes and heroines because it was a surprise and we didn't expected that! He is the best-selling author in United States and this short book (it has less than 200 pages) tells us a weird and frightening version of Alice in Wonderland. I was reading it two, three years ago and never finished it…

The story begins like this: “Coraline discovered the door a little while after they moved into the house”. The door once led to a room, but when the old house was converted into flats, the doorway was bricked up. That is, until the day, Coraline, very curious, sneaks the key from her distracted mother, and opens the door…

She enters into an alternative universe, where dogs eat nothing but chocolate, cats can talk, and she is greeted enthusiastically by her “Other Parents”. Till where I read, these ‘Other Parents’ frightened me to death… Her Other Mother looks quite a bit like her own mother, except for her long spindly fingers and shiny black button eyes (her Other Father also has these strange eyes). Where her real mother always seemed too busy for Coraline, her Other Mother is attentive and affectionate. She cooks delicious meals, spend all her time with her, and asks Coraline to live with them forever.

But she misses her real parents, and insists on returning to the real world. She finds her parents trapped in the hallway mirror, victims of her Other Mother’s evil spell. Till where I read, she made a deal with her Other Mother: she had to save ‘souls’ on the house (don’t ask me what souls are like, even Coraline knows it) to save their parents (and children which Coraline accidentally met, trapped on her Other Mother closet).

I guess Coraline is nine, maybe ten years old. If children read this story, they will be frightened to death and wouldn’t consider Coraline a heroine; I think (and hope!) they won’t read till the end of the book.
Coraline is a heroine for youth and adults interested by these kinds of alternative stories. She has a quest: she is now trapped in another dimension where her Other Parents seem nicer than her real ones, but they’re in fact horrible ‘persons’ to live with. She has to return to the real world, and for this, she needs to be perseverant, determinate and strong. Aren’t these characteristics of a heroine?
During the story, we hope for her best, for her achievement. Aren’t we acting like real supporters?
Even by this Romanesque and childish appearance of a weird fairy tale, Coraline has all the necessary archetypes to be a heroine nowadays.

>> Henry Moore >>>

Bronze - Moore Foundation -
Originally uploaded by Lhu.

Henry Moore (1898 - 1986) is perhaps the most influential public sculptor of this century. Drawing on his studies of Classical, Pre-Columbian and African art, Moore created original and truly modern sculptural forms. Abstractions of organic shapes were his primary motif. His seated, standing, and reclining figures comprise an enduring vocabulary reflecting the universality of the human condition.

To learn more about his biography, click here!

His influences are very complicated and different to explain… He found his real source of education in the sculptures displayed in the British Museum. It is during these visits to the museum that he made his sculptor's choice. Neglecting the classic, neo-classic statues and the baroque, which had no grip on his sensibility, he was interested in "primitive" more antique works: productions of the art Negro or Egyptian, Etruscan sarcophaguses, sculptures of archaic Greece or mysterious Aztec civilization. He found in these sculptures a powerful energy that, in his own taste, the following civilizations did not possess.

He had the chance to meet Michel Sadler, Vice Chancellor and great art collector of Cezanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh… Henry Moore was adept to the art Negro precursor of this art well in advance of their general acceptance in England.

Henry Moore's artistic career began really with the discovery of Roger Fry's Vision and Design, a collection of essays that had been published in 1920 and contained two particularly influential essays, one on Negro sculpture and the other on Ancient American art. Among Moore's fellow students at Leeds was Barbara Hepworth, who at the age of seventeen moved to London with a major scholarship to the Sculpture School of the Royal College of Art ( Barbara Hepworth is a great sculptor too, she did well-known abstracted sculptures… To know more about her, click here! )

It is outdoors that the artist imagined his sculptures, immersed them in the nature. According to him, sculptures are as human beings: they need space; it is necessary for them "to breathe".

"They owe, he says, to support the cold of winter, the warmth of summer, the fog and the sun, in the daytime and at night." ; “ Artificial light? Indoor they suffocate and they are ‘betrayed’!”

Henry Moore likes above all working outside, because he has the impression to repeat, in a certain way, the creative activity of the nature. He finds there the dominant lines and the structures of the works. Being inspired by pebbles polished with waters, by fragments of cliffs in asymmetric forms, hollow shells in the harmonious curves, trunks, and bones... They are treasures that Moore preserves.

If you still curious about his work, this site will show you many sculptures from the “Henry Moore Sculpture Center, opened in 1974.

There are some important Henry Moore quotes, which brought up his perception of what he was seeing, what he sculpted and thought when he sculpted, his purpose, etc.

"The purpose of my sculpture is not beauty such as it is understood by the artists of classic Greece and the Renaissance. There is an enormous difference between the beauty of the expression and the power of the expression. The former tends to satisfy senses. The later possesses a vitality of the spirit, which, in my opinion, is deeper and more suggestive... "

"The observation of nature is part of an artist's life, it enlarges his form [and] knowledge, keeps him fresh and from working only by formula, and feeds inspiration."

“In my opinion, everything, every shape, every bit of natural form, animals, people, pebbles, shells, anything you like are all things that can help you to make a sculpture.”

Want to read more quotes of Henry Moore? I guess we have the stereotype already done that British will always be refined, conservator, classical, and with a straight art perception. I changed my opinion when I saw Henry Moore’s sculptures. He was able to analyze human and men essence that will impress and be admired by all the following generations. Heroes are not necessarily strong and healthy physically, but they have spiritual strength and health. In my opinion, they have to be the pure kindness but they can’t be foolish and naïve like most good people we know.
A hero is an example of dignity and someone that people look up to feel better, to feel supported…

Where can we find heroes?

In my opinion, we can find heroes everywhere. In our neighborhood, in our building, on the streets, in school… It only depends on who you consider a hero. For example, last Sunday, on my way to my rehearsal, I saw a handicapped woman with her 5 year old child. She hadn’t a leg; she was using a long skirt and walking with crutches. And in spite of all the difficulty to walk, she was holding her daughter's hand. This is a remarkable example of a heroine nowadays.
Still, there are mythological heroes and heroes from comics that people look at with great admiration.

Is there a difference between a classical hero, a modern hero and a celebrity?

In my opinion, a classical hero is the strong and brave knight, the one that saves the princess, kills the dragon and lives happly ever after. A modern hero is a remarkable human being, someone that is well known by his struggle in spite all the horrors of the world. A celebrity can be defined like a ‘fake-hero’. Celebrities are so different when they’re in front of us, that we can’t trust their image. It’s false, it’s tricked. They can be considerate like heroes when they use their money to help and not only for their own profit.

What is a romantic hero? How could you describe your romantic hero?

On one hand, a romantic hero can be the misunderstood hero from the great books of the 19th century; the hero victim of his own destiny, different from the others and a great poet or writer. He can be very analyzed by his ambiguities and ambivalences.
On the other hand, a romantic hero can simply be a romantic person who does heroics acts!
My romantic hero is different from everyone, but he’s like me. He understands a simple look and reads my mind. He isn’t an easy person to talk to, and has to be a mysterious man, with his own ideas…

What is a heroic journey or quest?

A heroic quest to me is a target that seems impossible. It has to be something that people won’t believe that the hero could be able of. It has to cross the line of a bearable situation. It has to cross our limited point of view.

What kind of hero do you admire, and why?

I admire Anne Frank a lot! Following Joseph Campbell and his book “The hero with a thousand faces”, I could recognize three admirable archetypes of Anne Frank:

> First of all, she’s a winner. She fears weakness and will slay and confront her ‘dragon’ (( in her case, it is the misery, the poverty, the inhuman conditions in wich she lived during two years. (( she was in an attic called by her 'annex' )) )). She fights for what really matters, wich means, HOPE. She won’t give up hope of human kindness and this is beautiful and amazing thought for someone living in an attic because Humans intolerance. She’s courageous but not much disciplined: she has an insolent attitude with her family; she tries her best to live some youth in a so unbearable ambience.

> Second, she’s a seeker, she fights against conformity. At this annex she lived, she always tried to find another point of view of the sad situation she was trapped in. Her task is to be true to the deeper self, and this is confirmed in her Diary, where she wrote down her moods, her feelings, her dreams, her loves, (( in special, the teenage crush she had while she was in this attic, about Peter, the son of her parent’s friends. )). Her virtue is autonomy and ambition for a better life.

> And last archetype, she has some characteristics of a foolish hero (( due, maybe, by her age, by the fact she was in the middle of puberty... )) : she wants to enjoy life in spite of everything, for its own sake, in spite of the inhuman conditions she lived. She fears death so much and the thought of being caught by the Germans and always tries to escape her problems with tricks and jokes. She trusts a lot in the process of becoming, of growth, like the world and the man that can become better than waht they are at the moment. And she has so much joy and ‘freedom’ (( when she writes, she’s a hundred percent free )), even living in an attic.

..:: Anne Frank’s analyze ::..

Along with everything else she came to represent, Anne Frank symbolized the power of a book. Because of her diary she kept between 1942 and 1944, in the secret upstairs annex of an Amsterdam warehouse where she and her family hid until the Nazis found them, she became the most memorable figure to emerge from World War II — besides Hitler, of course.

She was cheerful, moody, funny, self-critical, other-critical teenager. All the same, the Book of Anne has inspired panoply of responses — plays, movies, documentaries, biographies, a critical edition of the diary — all in the service of understanding or imagining the girl.

She has risen above the Holocaust, Judaism, girlhood and even goodness and become a totemic figure of the modern world — the moral individual mind insisting on the right to live and question and hope for the future of human beings.

When the Nazis invaded Holland, the Frank family, like all Jewish residents, became victims of a systematically constricting universe. First came laws that forbade Jews to enter into business contracts. Then books by Jews were burned. Then there were the so-called Aryan laws, affecting intermarriage. Then Jews were barred from parks, beaches, movies, and libraries. By 1942 they had to wear yellow stars stitched to their outer garments. Then phone service was denied them, and then bicycles. Trapped at last in their homes, they were "disappeared."

At which point Otto and Edith Frank, their two daughters Margot and Anne and the Van Pels family decided to disappear themselves, and for the two years until they were betrayed, to lead a life reduced to hidden rooms. But Anne had an instrument of freedom in a book she had received for her 13th birthday. She wrote in an early entry, "I hope that you will be a great support and comfort to me." She had no idea how widely that support and comfort would extend, though her awareness of the power in her hands seemed to grow as time passed. One year before her death from typhus in the Bergen-Belsen camp, she wrote, "I want to be useful or give pleasure to people around me who yet don't really know me. I want to go on living even after my death!"

The reason for her immortality was basically literary. She was an extraordinarily good writer. Anne's deep effect on readers comes from her being a normal teenager. She was curious about sex, doubtful about religion, caustic about her parents, irritable especially to herself; she believed she had been fitted with two contradictory souls.

She was not simply born blessed with generosity; she struggled toward it by way of self-doubt, impatience, rage, and ennui — all things that test the value of a mind. Readers enjoy the diary's sweetest line — "I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are still truly good at heart" — -but the passage that follows is more revealing: "I simply can't build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness; I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too; I can feel the sufferings of millions; and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty will end, and that peace and tranquility will return again ... I must uphold my ideals, for perhaps the time will come when I shall be able to carry them out."

Here is no childish optimism but rather a declaration of principles, a way of dealing practically with a world bent on destroying her.

In her diary she showed the world not only how fine a person she was, but also how necessary it is to come to terms with one's own moral being, even — perhaps especially — when the context is horror.

Kisses!!! Dennis Malone Carter was born in 1818 and died in 1888. I could only find this white and black picture in this page.

To know more about Molly Pitcher and the story behind, you can click here. You can find it in the William Morris Gallery, London, England.

Sir Edward Burne-Jones met William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, after studying at Oxford with intentions of entering the seminary, who encouraged him to begin painting instead. He was also an acquaintance of John Ruskin, who showed him the Pre-Raphaelite’s work and was Burne-Jones’s companion on a trip to Italy in 1862. As a result of his travels, he began painting his mythological and medieval subjects in the style of Renaissance painters such as Botticelli and Mantegna. Burne-Jones also designed tapestries and illustrated books. You can learn more about him on this page.

The legends surrounding Saint George are very varied. One of them concerns the famous dragon, with which he is invariably portrayed. According to legend, a pagan town in Libya was being terrorized by a dragon. The locals kept throwing sheep it to placate its hunger, and when it still remained unsatisfied, they started sacrificing some of the citizenry. Finally the local princess, Cleolinda, daughter of the King, was to be thrown also to the beast, but Good Saint George came along, slaughtered the dragon and rescued the fair princess. At this the townsfolk converted to Christianity. Some experts think the tale is based on the Greek myth of Perseus rescuing Andromeda from a sea monster. You can learn more about the well-know tale in this page. (( You'll find a nice background music in this website! I guess it is a patriot song, who knows... ^.^))

In the center, in the foreground, we can see Saint George holding his shield in one hand, and his sword in the other one. He's slaying the dragon finishing it off with his sword. George's wearing a red cape, and it's a fixed label of a hero, isn't it? Saint George is a knight in shining armor. His expression isn't really clear and evident to interpret. In my opinion, the painter lived in times that all expression painted were neutral (( like Botticelli's Muses, they all have the same expression in different situations! )). We can suppose that George is quite tired because it took him a long time to kill this dragon. We realize that because there's a spear transpassing the dragon, so Saint George tried to slay it before and didn't manage.

We can associate the dragon with a reptile or a crock. I think it could be the Komodo Dragon, huh? This isn't a typical dragon that we read about in fairy tales. It isn't a huge reptile, spitting fire, with big wings. Here, this dragon is quite small compared to our image of dragons. Plus, it is wriggling like a worm, wich it pathetic.

(( Internet just lost it, and I had to write this post twice >.< !! He also produced many animated shorts which made him famous all over the world and for which he received many awards including the Golden Bear in 1990 Berlin Film Festival to "Mister Tao" and Oscar nomination to "Grasshoppers" in 1991. You can learn more about him on this page.

“Europe and Italy” show us humouristically different stereotypes about Italians. There are a lot of jokes and fun images that represent the messy Italian life. The first image of an European is a business man quite serious and respectable. Then, an Italian is showed like a goofy artist with his tongue out of his mouth and he is all dirty with paint. Later on, there are plenty of different occasions that the Italians are showed like disorganized, unrefined and messy people. Most of the situations that Bozzetto shows us are about traffic troubles, social and political traditions.

The author achieves all those stereotypes because he illustrates quite well the Italian stereotype. He brought up historical point of vues (( like the little Italian who doesn't leave the 'politic throne' that represent the fascism during the Second World War )) that remains our concept about Italians. Bozzetto has a remarkable ability to light up our label of everything we heard about Italians.

I realize that almost all Italian stereotypes reveled are also Brazilian stereotypes. The queuing, the traffic, the parking, the bus stop... All of them show the typical lazy and disorganized life that other people conceives we live.

***

(( Sorry guys, this post was done but I couldn't post it earlier... It is quite boring, but I guess it is just necessary...

I have this little history that fits on our Unit...

Last Friday, Flávia and I were talking next to the exit of the subway, just wasting time, telling each other some news...
Suddenly, a young blound lady, with this huge backpack, came to us and asked us where she could found the 'ESPM' (( EScola de Publicidade e Marketing )) (( a Publicity and Marketing College )). I had some difficulty to understand her peculiar accent when she said this. She was with a friend, who was looking for the information on a map.
Flávia asked her: " You're not Brazilian, are you?"
And the blond said: "No, English."
(( They said this in Portuguese ))
After a couple of seconds, I realized that I was present on a typical scene that exposes several stereotypes. The two friends were with backpacks very disproportional. One holding a map, and the other with this lost look around her. They had a sweater, in case the weather goes colder, a white shirt, these camp's jeans, well, they were just like any other camper or these young people that decide to go all over the world.
Flávia went help them out and I take the subway to go home.
She told me that they were supposed to meet a teacher, friend of them, at the ESPM. Flávia talked in English with them, and I really admired it.

I guess there are some people that express themselves and pronunciate with more facility than others.

Well, this is not the subject!
The fact is that I had the close experience of seeing really stereotypes of tourists!
What kind of thought passed people's head? Certainly, labels and images already fixed by everybody.
Hope they won't claim too much of attention near the thieves , etc.

Well. The second week I had some difficulties to access my computer; my mother worked till late at night and when I thought that I could post something, she wasn’t cooperating! And I had too much work, I guess I’m just adapting myself to so much homework and tests...
I’m doing ‘leaderships classes’ at Club ‘Hebraica’. (( I will write more about it in the following posts... )) These classes take all my free-time on Wednesday afternoons. I’m trying to be able to organize myself.
I had this weird dream that my French teacher was asking my homework so that he could grade it. And, in my dream, I hadn’t done it. So he was very mad at me! Ok, then I woke up, and it was just a dream. The strange thing is that he really asked my work! Fortunately, I’ve done it, even if at 11pm (( I mean that I was a little bit sleepy ~.~ )).
Later on, on my way to the subway, I’ve tried to translate a Brazilian song to English!
I had something like this...

“Equalize – Pitty

If I sometimes get distracted
If I'm not careful for a second
I transport my self closer to you
I just can't be left on my own
That smell soon comes to me
That comes from you to me
In a perfect flux
While you talk and kiss me
At the same time I see
Your colors in your eyes close
I swing slowly
Like when you rock me
The rhythm goes easily
As if it was rehearsed

And I think I really like you
Just the way you are

I'm going to tone to you
In a frequency only known by us
I turned you into this song
So I can record you on me

I love this sleepy face of yours
And the tone of your voice tone
That tells me really crazy things
And nearly makes me laugh to death
When you try to convince me
That I only stayed here
Because we're both one of a kind
It's like you've already had
My manual of instructions
Because you decode my dreams
Because you know what I like
And because when you hold me
The world spins slowly

And time is mine
And nobody captures the scene
Suddenly it turns into a
Whole slow motion movie

And I think I really like you
Just the way you are

I'm going to equalize you
In a frequency only know by us
I turned you into this song
So I can record you on me “

I’m quite sure that I’ve made a LOT of mistakes in this translation and in my posts...
But I guess that what counts is the intention, huh?
So, sorry again that I couldn’t post last week (( and the week before ~.~ ))
Promise that, now, I’ll be more concentrate.
Kisses to all of you!

Lhu*®5

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

The two first English classes...

16.02.05
On our first class, we made groups of 4 to try to give a definition for 'Stereotypes'. My group brought up something like this: 'Stereotype is an image created by the society to generalize and classify the different kind of people and thoughts. It only concern the appearance and it's a pre-judgment according to certain characteristics.' What do you think about this?Later on, we listened to our friends answer. Then, the teacher, Mrs. Dieu, gave us a list of adjectives to classify the positive and negative ones. To next class, we had to finish our work and classify these adjectives in separated 'groups'. Example: 'organization: tidy/disciplined/messy ...'

18.02.05
Today we continued the work. I really enjoyed when we made groups of 4, again, to discuss the Brazilian and French stereotypes. We found some characteristics really amusing and others that could be a wrong label about us (( and about them! )).
